PINOT NOIR CELEBRATION JAPAN

Pinot Noir is becoming increasingly popular among young professionals in Japan, as it is in countries like Britain.

Bob and Yuko Harris attended a Pinot Noir Celebration Japan event in Tokyo on 10 July. Our Phoenix wine Club presidents noted the large number of young adults – women and men – in attendance.

Held at the prestigious American Club of Tokyo, the event began with a a lunchtime seminar, with informative presentations and tasting of wines. This was followed by a general wine-tasting open to a broader public, presenting 120 Pinot Noir wines from 23 producers in 8 countries. Over 400 people participated.

Grapes for quality Pinot Noir grow in cooler climates. We enjoy  comparing wines from different parts of the world, and one can find some rather delightful surprises.  Burgundy, with centuries of tradition, remains the original home of Pinot Noir – see our E-bulletin this month on the admission of the climates of Burgundy to the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Our thanks to our friends at Village Cellars Japan for making it possible for us to attend and learn at this interesting event.
